Clinic History
Salem Free Medical Clinic (SFMC) was started 6 years ago by West Salem Foursquare Church (WSFC). As WSFC met with people living in the Edgewater district of West Salem asking what they could do to help you…the number one answer was the need for access to healthcare. With the need for medical help in mind, Dr. Reynolds and Todd Gould made their first house call.
Walker Middle School offered the use of their gym for the first 5 years of its existence. Salem Free Medical Clinic met at the location holding clinic every first and third Saturdays.
As Salem Alliance Church (SAC) began praying about what God’s plan was for their new Broadway building and they surveyed the community around the church, a medical clinic rose to the top again. At the same time, SFMC was praying for a place to call home. Because we serve a great God who knows all things, He led us to a church partnership. On October 3, 2009 SFMC moved into a temporary location in Salem awaiting a final move in September 2010 to our new main clinic location. During our stay at our interim location we expanded from 2 clinics a month to 10 clinics a month.
On the second Saturday in November 2009, SFMC also expanded to include a satellite clinic location at Trinity Covenant Church (TCC) in south Salem. From God’s provision for a temporary site and the addition of a satellite clinic, SFMC was able to expand from 2 to 10 clinics a month in the temporary location and the satellite clinic at TCC.
On September 4, 2010 we moved into our permanent clinic facility. We immediately expanded an additional two clinic times which means we had a total of 12 scheduled clinics a month. We continue trusting God for the resources needed to have the medical clinic open five days every week with expansion mid 2011 into dental clinics for those in Salem and the surrounding areas that are uninsured.
